Day 8 - And the winner is:

Scale day

And so, I woke up and jumped on to the weigh scale. 

Last monday: 194.8 lbs
Today:          185.4 lbs

YEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!

Almost ten pound less!

So this diet is working A OK. 

Today I will be brief for I ate EVERYTHING I liked!

08:00 am - Chocolate Maltshake

10:00 am - Chicken noodle soup

13:00 pm - Chicken noodle soup (yes again! heh heh) with zucchinni and 2 tbs of olive oil

16:00 pm - Chicken nuggets and pickles

19:00 pm - Chocolate dessert. I know I hate it but I only have 2 to go. 

22:00 pm - Maltshake VAnilla

Today It was the first day I felt very hungry, even my intestines were growling. Hard. So i ate the nuggets half hour before. But it was OK after that. 

On wednesday I will be going to the Dr. Let see how that goes!. 

Day 7 - And on the 7th day...


I entered on Ketosis. Yes, finally...or so I say. Still need to byt the Keto-stix to proove it. 

So here's today's menu: 

10:00 - Chocolate Malt shake. 

13:00 - Chicken noodle soup with zuccini

16:00 - Chicken Nuggets with cucumbers

19:00 - Chocolate Maltshake

So this was Sunday. I did not follwed my own schedule with the specific food.

I'm rebelling to the horrible taste, and I will not, I repeat, I WILL NOT eat what I don't like. 
I thought of this because, if I keep on eating things I don't like (I know myself) I will stop this diet. And that is not the point. 

I was reading this diet is similar to the Atkins diet. Im curious, I will read more on this subject. 

OH MY LORD! My sister-in-law just told me this diet makes you stupid for the first month!!!

I don't know the facts, but it all started when we were watching Oscar Night, and I found myself forgetting all the actresses and actors names!! I still cannot believe this! But it is true, I couldn't remember any name, I was like:

- Yes, did you know Sandra Bullocks' ex was engaged also to... to.. to.. ¿? what was her name? -looking at my brother- this...this lady... with all the tatoos.. the artist.. she... VON.. Von something.. HELP MEE!!"

- YESSS!!! Thankyou brother!

Really frustrating, but she told me it is because the body has to get used to the ingest of carbs and sugar, so the body is using all the good things it can get (including the brain) feeding on the extra fat. 

I'm (definitely) going to look up this side effect. 

- "Don´t worry, we will get you a helmet" my sweet brother and sis-in-law told me. 

Sarcasm! But I laughed histerically!

Day 6 - ...

...

07:00 - Vanilla Maltshake. Today the strang "Melox" flavor kicked again. I don't know if it was because I brushed my teeth with a new toothpaste and the flouride taste collided with the drink. Still drank it. 

10:00 - Bread. No. nooooooo no no no no no no. Not even with the loads of cinnamon and artificial sweetner. It's a horrible flavor. Gagged. Spitted out what I had in my mouth. I'm so sorry for the 3 envelopes I have still. 

I was reading on this guys blog (the one that wrote for the first nine days and then stopped, in his final entries, he wrote: "I will ONLY buy soups and drinks next time". 

I'm about to do that next week. Seriously.

13:00 - Flour Tortilla  ¿Hot Cake? with mushrooms - I accidentally baked the wrong flour. Of course I noticed it once I was gagging at the end!! I was too asleep to realize I was making this huge mistake. 

Don't get me wrong. Some of the meals are good. Like the soup, and maltshakes, but some of the other, just leaves you plain medicine after taste which I am not really enjoying. 
I am thinking I should pay a visit to the doctor on monday. I need to get more meals with different flavours. 

The big question would be: ¿What should I do with the spare envelopes I did not consume? 

16:00 - NOW Flour Tortilla and pickles. I don't know if it's ME with the nausea but this time I forced myself to eat everything. Mind power...

19:00 - Strawberry drink. I chug it down FAST! NOw I'm just trying to get over these envelopes!

22:00 - Vanilla Pudding- Same as the strawberery drink.
Not feeling hungry AT ALL!

Day 5 - STOP THE BREAD-NESS!!

08:00 - Maltshake, chocolate maltshake, nice to meet you. Love you. 

10:00 - Crepe with mushrooms - These kind of meals, I likey likey. 

13:00 - Zuccini (ONE - small) & Chicken noodle soup. Today I discovered I like very much the Zuccini, it was only stir fried and it actually had a great flavor. The soup, it just donesn't last enough! 

16:00- B...bbbbrr....bbbrrread!! with tomatos. I have really developed a gag factor for the "breads", really, I don't like them anymore. I just couldn't eat it. Just ate the tomato and a lemon flavored ice. 

I have a Plan B for the next bread: cinammon and artificial sweetner. That is my ONLY HOPE for the next week. I still have NINE NIIIINEEEE "9" envelopes! I want to cry SO much" Bad purchase. 

Today my Dr. answered my email. It looks like I cannot take ANY medication, it has to be a special medication (for allergies) ONLY approved by him -Allegra- because the other medication I wanted to take had "corticosteroids" and it could break the Ketosis. 

I guess I can handle a little allergy... I guess.

19:00 - Chicken nuggets and toatoes. SAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?
No, I'm NOT hungry, not at all, seroiusly, I'm even feeling nauseaus. No. Seroisuly. TAke this plate away from me.
and as I refused to eat, I remembered my friend telling me never to skip a meal, so I tried to swallow the two portions. I really struggled to eat those ones, eventought they are my favorite. 

Not feeling hungry at al. 

22:00 - Chocolate dessert. Is sitting there on the fridge. I am mentalizing myself to go and chug it down. Still, not hungry.

Night 4 - I cannot sleep. Here are some pictures

It's funny how I have been looking for other PRONOKAL experiences, and just found ONE from Mexico. A guy called Ferchu.. it was interesting on the first four days, then he started being so detailed and then on the 9th day, he stopped blogging.
Really a shame. We could all have learned a bit more from his day by day experience. But this is what I will do, I will keep posting for the next four months and keeping track of my advance. 

So as I promised, here are the images I have with a brief explanation:

Day 4 - I wanna drink water all night... (and party every day!)


07:00 - Strawberry Drink - Concentrate...use your sinus to AVOID THE TASTE.. I pinched my nose and swallowed as fast as I could. Pheww. Water please. 

10:00 - Crepes with a pinch of cinnamon and Sween N low - Ate it fast. IT was good, but the aftertaste on every meal is getting a liitle bit disgusting. 

13:00 - THE BREADDD THE BREADDDD - I tried to change flavors, I added oregano before cooking and added cooked tomatoes... 

DIS-GUS-TING! YUK!

I could not eat it. I ate the tomatoe and yesterday, my friend told me that in case of anxiety, I could freeze water with ONE lemon and sweet N low, and make a popsicle. 

The popsicle was tasteless but it helped me with the hunger. 
More water please. 

16:00 - Vanilla Pudding -  Seriously, I could have not made the WORST descicion on picking these puddings. I'm suffering them. I made it a little bit more liquidy, so I could drink it without tasting it. 

Water please. 

19:00 -  Chicken Nuggets and nopales - My fave. This time the nuggets were cooked on the oven. Crispier and the nopales were grilled. Good one. STILL after eating the nuggets, there is a strange flavour, just like the other products, like medicine like. I guess it's the protein thingy. 

Water please 

22:00 - Vanilla Pudding AGAIN?!?!?! Oh no no no no no no no no. I'm changing it for a malt shake. 

More water thankyou. 

I am feeling particularly thirsty. VERY thirsty. Is it the Ketosis? Don't know. 

Blood sugar levels are going down. Slowly but surely

Stomach has reduced itself considerably. 

Im going to get more water... I'm feeling hot. is it hot in here?

Day 3 - Feeling like Snow White's 7 dwarfs


Yes, I feel sleepy, hungry, grumpy, & dopey! 

I don't know why I feel extremely tired, most of all sleepy. 

10:00 am - Chocolate Malt shake  AND Chocolate pudding 
Today I was awaken by my assistant telling me I had already missed the 7 am meal. I abruptly woke up piled up all my pills (supplements) injected myself, took my glucose levels, and took the metphormine. Logged in on my diary app and quickly entered all the information. 

I'm not a morning person, especially at eating. I only found myself starving and bingeing at mornings, when I ate a LOT at nights. 
So I did not felt hungry at all, however, I knew I had to eat. I could not skip meals. 

I drank the shake and GULPED the pudding. Today I didn't felt that horrid flavor, but then again maybe it was because of my morning allergies, so I gulped as much as I could before gagging and then I drank water. Basically I forced myself to eat it. 

13:00 pm - Chicken noodle soup and Pickles. I do not remember when I fell asleep again between 10:00 and 13:00, all I know is my assistant woke me up -again- to have lunch. I drank the soup again at lightspeed and chewed and chewed the pickles, which were good. It has been a while since I ate pickles. 

The afternoon runned smoothly. 

16:00 pm - Provenzal Bread with tomatoes. 
Yesterday's bread was AWFUL, so I remembered my friends words: Try putting some condiments on it will give a different flavor to the food. And I did. 

OREGANOOOOOO!

It helped a bit but still the Provenzal bread had this leftover flavor... ugh!.

19:00 pm - Hot Cake. 

OH MY LORDY LORD! For three hours I couldn't stop thinking of food, hamburgers, sodas, chicken ohhh.. EVERYTHING. I tried to watch some TV shows, but watching "The Big Bang Theory" was torture!! They eat on every episode.. deliciuos chinese food! or anything else they can put on their mouths and savour it deliciously! I got my Hot Cake (mixed with cinnamon and artificial sweetener) and it tasted like heaven. Loved it!

22:00 pm - Chocolate (or vanilla I can't remember) Maltshake. Looking forward for that one. 


OH THE HORROR! THE HORROR!!

WHERE DID I HIDE SO MUCH BODY FAT AND SKIN? 
Seriously, it looks like I have triplets inside me. 

That was monday. 

Today (2 days later) I can proudly say the stomach has gone 1/3 away.

Day 2 - Coping with Hunger

I know I sound melodramatic, but believe me, no I don't. 

I went to sleep very hungry, my intestins sounded like a Carnegie Hall concert, I felt dizzy and nauseated, I just wanted to sleep and make this feeling go away. 


07:00 am - And so I woke up early in the morning. It feels so strange having to document every move I make, inject Victoza, take metphormine, drink chocolate maltshake (which by the way it tasted WONDERFUL) take 3 supplements, log in the special application so I can send all the info to the doctor. oh and measure glucose levels. 

I feel like a chemistry laboratory subject!

Having abdominal cramps, I'm just laying on my bed trying to calm down cause STILL I don't know if I can take any kind of pills (memo to me: need to ask Dr. ASAP)


Todays menu seems good. we'll see how it goes at 10:00 am.

10:00 am - Chicken noodle soup. I DEVOURED it in -literally- 60 seconds! It was soooo goood, tasted delicious, defintely will buy again. Can´t wait to eat again!. LOL

The stomach ache hurts like all the food I have ingested is struggling to get out. I won't get all specific on this but you can imagine. 


13:00 pm - Provenzal Bread with tomatoes (2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil) and Nopales. It tasted good. Still devouring food, although trying to go slower. 

Supplements and more supplements. 

Woke up from a nap. I have this TERRIBLE HEADACHE i have to control due to the fact my Dr. hasn´t answered wether I can ingest Tylenol or Advil. 

Will try mental control. 

16:00 pm - Fruity strawberry drink. Not my favorite but had to have something to eat, so I chugged it down and then followed it with water. oh! and supplements.

So I decided today to get my Blood Pressure taken. I had a doctors appointment and I was running late, so I literally ran to the pharmacy to have it taken. 

Of course, nobody told me I had to be calm to have a successful sample.  

I got there running and of course my BP was high. I decided to ignore it and maybe buy a personal BP taker to do it at home, when I' calm and maybe take it a couple of times a day.


19:00 - Yes, still HUNGRY! I had the crepes with lots of mushrooms, it was delicious. I was satisfyed. 


So satisfyed I fell asleep (just like yesterday) still with the headache and had recurring dreams of food, this time: Chinese. 


I woke up with my mouth watering! and ran for my bread (Simple Bread) so I went to the kitchen and my food radar saw mushrooms. I got the plate and started eating them meanwhile the bread was heating up. 


Ok so this is what happened. When I realized i was eating the vegetables I wasn't supposed to (but could) I stopped. And began munching on the bread I could have. 

On the last few bites, a strange flavour kicked in. OH NO. I had to spit it out gagging a bit. Yuck. 

I need to have a plan to put different flavours on food, or else I won't make it. 

It says on the instructions, I can add POWDER and only POWDER condiments. 

22:00 pm - Bread (with not scheduled mushrooms). 


The taste on my mouth is still there. I cannot wash it away. This bread is a no no. 


Head ache comes and goes now. 


What's difficult about this diet, is once you bought the food boxes, you're stuck with them for 15 days, You cannot exchange them, you cannot buy some more different flavors. you have to eat them and until next Dr. appointment he will give you the signed order and UNTIL THEN you can buy some more products. 


So I will be stuck with the horrible puddings and bread until the end of next week. Ugh!.

Day 1 - Here we go

Day ONE -  196.8 lbs.

8:00 am - Woke up late, I had to start at 7:00 am but just couldn't I took my glucose levels, injected Victoza, took my metphormine and drank my first vanilla milkshake. It was good. Plus, the supplements: Potassium Vitamins and Sodium. 


10:00 am - ONE Hot Cake. added a pinch of cinnammon AND the supplements


Water Water Water Water Water WATEERRRRRRRRRRR!!!


Being used to diet sodas and bubble gum to avoid hunger, on this diet, one cannot have bubble gum because it brings you out of Ketosis, as well as the soda. I can only have non-flavored sprinkle water and ONLY two glasses. Cannot drink lemonade cause Lemon is a fruit and it has sugar so I am limited to one lemon per day


EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL is mandatory - 2 tbspoons at lunch or dinner. 


I am not used  to drinking water. At all. So this now is for me a great sacrifice. 


13:00 pm - Nuggets with half Tomato (100 grms) YUM! they were delicious. and the portion was very nice. These were made pouring the envelope contents on water and then on a pan with no oil butter or else. 


Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaater. 


16:00 - OMG... I was told the Vanilla pudding was not a nice meal. THEY WERE RIGHT. I tried it just to have my own conclusion and I literally forced myself to eat it. It was good at first, but      halfway the taste was like... like.. MELOX! yes, it reminded me of that horrible horrible medicine. I left 1/3 behind. Couldn't keep going. 


Cant wait for dinner at 19:00 hrs. I am feeling the hunger creeping in. 


19:00 - Tortilla with vegetables (Nopales = Cactus) don't laugh, in Mexico this vegetable is very good, it is normally taken by diabetics cause it helps to lower the sugar levels. I can have 3 cups of this vegetable. 


I was starving by this time so I ate 1/2 an hour earlier. DEVOURED the nopales and the tortilla, really I didn't wanted it to end...


HEART BURNNNN!!! Since this morning I've been experiencing heartburn, what I don't know is, if I can take a pill or something for the relief, I need to ask the doctor, meanwhile, I'll just have to drink water. 


22:00 - Chocolate Pudding.... OH MY GOODNESS!!! what is wrong with these puddings? seriously!!! They taste horrible, and I had to eat it because I was straving!! Eventhough I wanted to chomp my poor doggys head, I had to stop eating that pudding the flavour was horrendous. I dont know what I'm going to do, cause I have TWO BOXES almost full and (besides they are expensive - $30.00 USD EACH BOX!) I need to finish them cause I don't have any extra envelopes!! Bad choice. On the other hand, the glucose had gone down about 20 points. That's a good thing.


23:41 - Almost bedtime. HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY! and although I am trying to control mind over matter, the old tradition of the midnight binge comes to mind.

Trying to keep myself calm and remember in a few hours I will have breakfast. 


Ketosis.... please come!! QUICK!


Oh and the dryness in my mouth is starting to kick in. A normal Ketosis side effect. YUCK


...and in my fat girl inner thought, all I can think of is SUSHI. 


The thing about PRONOKAL is once you have started, YOU CANNOT eat anything else but the envelopes. If you break the diet, you break the ketosis mode and then you have to wait for three months before starting it again. So now I am inside this diet, now I have to "man-up"!


**Sigh**

Preparations

Before getting started on PRONOKAL, I had to get a whole bunch of medical exams and visit several doctors.

First I went to the Certified doctor who gives you the authorized form to get the boxes with the envelopes and  vitamins.

Then I had to go to the endocrynologyst, who sent me to another lab to make some more studies (Zeus -which measures body fat, muscle & water- and a Calorymetry -measures how many calories you burn laying down) AND he changed my diabetes medicine -Victoza is still on the map-.

Because of my condition, instead of the 5 regular envelopes, the Dr. gave me 6, making 6 meals a day.

I had a full check-up blood test.

I will have to check up my glucose meters before every breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I will have to check up my blood pressure three days a week.

In my case, I have to be supervised by my doctors on a weekly basis, so if you decide to make this diet, be sure to have a strict Doctor supervision.

I went to the PRONOKAL distributors (located on the WTC Mexico City) where another doctor attended me and gave me the boxes with the meals I had previously chosen:


  • Nuggets
  • Flour Tortilla
  • Hot Cakes

  • Strawberry shake
  • Bread
  • Provenzal Bread
  • Crepes
  • Vanilla Shake
  • Chocolate Shake

There are several meals, but these are the ones I chose for the next 15 days. Each box has 7 envelopes.

SO having everything set up, I am ready to begin.

Getting started: ¿What is PRONOKAL?

And so, after trying EVERY diet on the list, EVERY medication on the book and -well, not exercising- I decided to go on a diet called PRONOKAL (greatly suggested by my best friend who did it a year ago and lost LOTS of weight). I was so tired of being overweight and being secluded at home because of the same reason, besides I was diagnosed with Diabetes type II on 2010, I had to do something immediately!. 

Eight months ago, I was introduced to Victoza (yes, I am Victozavixen) but that is when I realized my obesity was more a mental than physical. I eat because I am anxious, I eat when I get bad memories, sad memories or when I see a food commercial on TV.. even when I see cartoons, I immediately feel this hunger inside. There was no limit for my bingeing, no food too far, no craving too expensive, I would always get my way. And so, I kept on with Victoza, but also kept on with the chocolates and binges. 


Last week when I saw my new endocrynologyst, he told me Victoza is the only FDA approved medication to make you loose weight. Well, I guess I am the statistic who didn't loose weight. HOWEVER, Victoza helped me -a lot- no to gain weight. Today I am nearly 200 pounds, and I am guessing that without Victoza I would be weighing 300.


So, taking desperate measures for desperate moments, I finally decided to go on Pronokal. 


What is PRONOKAL?


Well it's a programme originated in Spain, with full medical supervision and a personalized maintenance, according to each patient. It is based on a protein diet with a high biological value and the restriction of sugar and fat therefore, getting a healthy weight loss. The success on the Pronokal method is based on the loss of weight  produced by the consumption of the accumulated body fat.


It has several Phases


Active Phase: The most strict but also, the most motivational. You loose weight quickly without feeling hungry and keeping a positive attitude.


Reeducation Phase: Whe the patient has lost 80% of the weight and it's approved by the doctor. 


Maintainance Phase: Last one, when the new habits are accquired and where the patient keeps a medical  supervision where the weight keeps off for a long period of time and avoids gaining the weight again.
